2008 LOUISIANA STATE FAIR
VALIDATION PROCEDURE

  1. Market Steers, Lambs, Swine, Goats, Commercial Heifers, Commercial Does, Commercial Ewes, Commercial Gilt, and Commercial Dairy are all required to be DNA tested and ear tagged.
     

  2. There will be a form for all agents and FFA Advisors to order the DNA envelopes and ear tags from the State
    Fair, we will also have the form on our website. (www.statefairoflouisiana.com)
     

  3. Agents and FFA Advisors will issue the DNA envelopes, ear tags, and information cards to the exhibitors. There will be instruction on how to pull DNA enclosed and also we will have the instructions on our website.
     

  4. Exhibitors will be responsible for tagging their own animals with State Fair ear tags and pulling hair for the DNA hair samples.
     

  5. Exhibitors will be responsible for mailing the DNA envelopes and information cards back to the State Fair. These items are to be mailed CERTIFIED MAIL--RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED. If the sample is deemed inconclusive by the laboratory because of missing hair follicles, the test will be considered a MISMATCH and appropriate penalties will be applied. Individual's animal ID must match EXACTLY the ID that was submitted on and inside the DNA sample envelope. Any discrepancy or confusion in animal ID will be the responsibility of the exhibitor. Should extra DNA testing be required, and is approved by the show officials, to remedy any problem, the cost  to the exhibitor will be $100.00 per test, payable immediately.

    Market Goats July 10, 2008
    All Commercial Animals July 10, 2008
    Market Swine August 10, 2008


    Cost for DNA Envelopes and ear tags will be $6.00 per head. Schedule to order DNA envelopes and ear tags.
    Dates to be returned to the State Fair Office.

    Market Steers from April 15 thru May 10, 2008. (DNA envelopes and information card must be in the State
    Fair Office postmarked no later than May 10, 2008.)
    Market Goats, lambs, commercial does, commercial dairy, commercial ewes, and commercial heifers from June 15 thru July 10, 2008 (DNA envelope and information card must be in the State Fair Office postmarked no later than July 10, 2008.)
    Market and Commercial Swine from July 15 thru August 10, 2008. (DNA envelopes and information car must be in the State Fair Office postmarked no later than August 10, 2008.)
